Couchsurfing with Asa and Jaimee

This is my first English post on this blog. From now on, I might write more in English, so more people I meet can read this blog!

Asa and Jaimee

On monday and tuesday this week we had an awesome time with Asa and Jaimee. They sent a message on Saturday, if it was okay to stay somewhere on Crete. We were happy to meet them. They come from the United States and are on a worldtrip. They are almost at the end of their trip, so the challenge was to give them a great time here, after all the beautiful and good things they already had been through.

They arrived on Monday. That night we had a great dinner together. I cooked several dishes and we had a lot of good converstations. The next day, after work (around 3pm), we went on an offroad trip with the Jeep. One thing that makes me happy is that the Jeep is running again and so we really were able to have this off road trip. Arjan drove the car, I did the

navigation and Asa and Jaimee were in the back, listening to the information provided by Routaki. It was a lot of fun. We ended the trip at the horse stables and hotel Vélani of Manos and Sabine. There we had a drink and looked at the beautiful views on the mountains. What a great place!

There we decided to go to the Cave of Agia Fortini, or in English, Saint Lucas. It was a 10 minute drive, up in to the hills and there a stairs up to the cave. It was a completely desolated place and very dark. At the entrance of the cave you buy some candles and you go in. On the way to the centre of  the cave, you can lit more candles that are placed on the cave walls. So you can find the exit on your way back. After a couple of minutes you arrive in the centre of the cave and there is a sort of chapel. You search for some candles and lit everything. And there you can have your own private seance. It was a great adventure, especially because I don’t see anything in the dark;-)

After the trip to the cave we went back to Vélani to have another drink and something to eat. And Arjan could get his horse shit for the garden. Dinner was very good. All the dishes were great. And again we had a lot of fun. While looking at the mountains I realised something that I already forgot the next day. It is such a beautiful thing to live a life so full of unexpected things. I don’t plan, things just happen. But only because I’m opening myself to let it happen. It is a difficult thing to do sometimes. But realising it once again, makes me very happy!

One of the things we had in common was the fact that three of us had read the book The Happiness Project written by Gretchen Rubin. We were all very fond of the book and happy that we were able to live our own way of a happy lifestyle!

Asa and Jaimee, thanks for joining us, we had a very great time with you. And if we are around we definitely come visit you in the US. Happy 52th anniversary on Friday;-)
